Professor, Graphic Communications

After teaching music at John Adams for 5 years, I was the first teacher hired by the then new Samohi Principal, George Drake. My teaching tenure, as a choral music teacher at Samohi, was from 1958 to 1981 when I elected an early retirement. (During my last 2 years at Samohi I taught Driver Ed.)
The present music building was completed in 1960. I have a photograph of the Viking Chorale (in their Robes) taken in M-202 with a background of stud walls and ceiling insulation. (see above) We were excited to be moving into a sound proof room since we would no longer be harassing other classes from our rehearsal classroom at the North end of the English building. (The building that is next to 7th street.)
I was invited back to guest-conduct at the District's annual Stairway of the Stars program on the occasion of Samohi's 100th anniversary and again last year on the 50th anniversary of the Stairway programs. At this latter occasion, my daughter, Carolyn Bremer was the recipient of the District's Outstanding graduate in the Arts award. Carolyn composed an orchestral piece for the occasion based on the melody of Samohi's Hymn of Praise. It was titled, "Setting Sun," and was conducted by her former Samohi orchestra teacher, Gerald Anderson.
We have resided on the Big Island since 1981. We live out
in the country about fifteen miles from Hilo, My wife is a Communications
instructor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and I ship Hawaiian
orchids to the Mainland for gifts and social affairs. Hence the
upcoming advertisement of my web site in the Viking News.
