I'm still in Bakersfield, living with my parents on their 10 acres and enjoying watching my daughter thrive in high school. I currently teach high school Alternative Education classes and love working with this population. I'm still divorced/single and just beginning to consider getting back into the whole dating thing. It's a lot different now than it was back when! I want to "get out of Dodge", so to speak, but not until Madeline graduates ('08). I'd like to go north or maybe upstate NY. Just someplace green and affordable. Know any place like that? Anyway, I'd love to hear from old classmates, friends, etc.
Married since 1990, and we moved to the Valley(!?) in 1991. We have two daughters: Gabriella was born in '92 and Veronica in '96. I have been working at the phone company since '78. and I am an executive board member of my union.
Today I am working at the San Diego Zoo as a Building and Grounds Attendant. I have been married to Kim for 13 years. Our daughter Dakota is almost 5 years old. I would love it if some of my old friends would contact me. Today's date is 5/31/98.
I played flute in the marching band under Mr Hile. Enjoyed the company of my fellow musicians, but have fell out of touch since leaving school. Some of my best memories were of parades and football games. I married Brian Peters class of 1980. We are still married with 2 girls, Amanda 15 and Danielle 9.
I work as a medical claims examiner for large third party administrator in Culver City paying medical claims for sick UCLA students. Brian is a succesful plumbing contractor with his own business that is driving him crazy. If anyone knows the whereabouts of my old friend Kenny Spencer, Emil Oppfer, or J'Amy Elton drop me a line. Good Luck and Long Life to all- I'd love to hear from you!

Hi everyone! Yes, I was that shy daughter of immigrants, started school a year younger, curly hair, funny accent and smart Argentine 70`s outfits that didn't quite fly on the Malibu jeans-&-blonde scene. Some were cool, others teased. But by sophomore year, truces emerged. 70's trivia: I was into Led Zeppelin et al, the only rebel girl in Auto Shop, that lone sprinter in "Run for Fun" & got into the first Rock Poetry class... Amazingly, I spent a good part of my senior year "ditching" with my boyfriend to "lie out" on the beach and read philosophy, but graduated fine anyway - no doubt, thanks to brilliant teachers...
At first bohemian, I did Fine Arts and Music at SMC, then Philosophy and Multicultural Education at UCSC, developing a parallel career as a translator and simultaneous interpreter (add in French & Italian). Then, Europe for graduate studies, among which, a Master's at Oxford and career at the UN in international law and policy: research, conferences, projects, publications, communications, public relations. Most recently, went "back home" on a Rotary Scholarship to South America, worked in the Ministry of Environment and created a Foundation to address poverty, social and environmental issues. Have lived in some ten different countries, travelled to more. Still love the beach, hiking and dance! Just got back to SM to spend some time with my adorable parents, trying to stay put for now... so, keep me posted on reunions and events and let's seize the chance to touch base while it's there!
Looking back, miss alot of cool souls from around '79 - beyond the obvious, Lori Lindberg, Snoops, Carol, George, Steph, Lorel, Deb, Rico, Carl, Den, the Powells, Emilio, Ramón, and to Glen - eternal thanks for the prom date right after my breakup, what an angel! Too many to name, but you know who you are.
Congratulations on your achievements to Sean, Rob, Emilio and family, you make us proud! I watched you become famous on billboards and movie theatres in Europe with a quiet inward smile. :)
Friends and "foe" alike, write! We'll have a few laughs! How much the world has changed since those years...
Community can hold alot of potential. Who else is out there?...
Still living in the area, and enjoying life with lovely wife and three boys.
You may not remember me but I had the fastest car in High School. It was a red '67 El Camino, I hung with the dudes in the Samo car club. Now I build race engines, for John Force, I'm married with two kids, one son 15 Felix and my daughter 12 Rydell. My wife Cormier and I separated last Summer, but it's all good. I still live in Santa Monica. Keep in touch shempee@aol.com Louey

After graduating SAMOHI in 1979, I went on to Pitzer College
in Claremont, CA and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry/Math
in 1983. I have held management positions in the Petrochemical
and Environmental fields and even owned my own business for eight
years. My current position is Quality and Data Manager for a manufacturing
firm in Ontario, CA. I have two daughters and I still keep in
touch with a few individuals who attended SAMOHI. I would love
to hear from others with whom I was acquainted during this time
in my life.
It was just terrific to see many of our classmates at the 25th reunion this past October. Like everyone else at the event, it was difficult to believe that all those years have gone by. Nonetheless, I capitalized on the opportunity to catch up with people that I had not really spoken with since our Franklin and Lincoln days. But I was saddened to learn about the premature demise of Gardner Graber, who I 've known since kindergarten at Franklin. In any event, I'm still doing the establishment thing...lawyer, marriage, kids, mortgage and all that. Often times I think that the most fun and care-free time of my life was my swimming and water polo days at Samo, and the friends I presently and regularly communicate with stem from those teams. It would be a pleasure to hear from others in the Class of 79 who would care to drop a note. Take care, all.
Graduated from San Diego State University in 1987, by way of SMC, with a biology degree. Met my wife Sandy while working in a research lab in San Diego. We lived in St. Louis for 9 years before moving back to Central California where I work as a dermatologist. We have two boys, Michael age 3, and Zachary age 2.
We finally moved back to CA!!! Texas was, well, Texas. It was an extended visit between college and working for the Feds in DC and returning back to SoCal. I am teaching intelligence and security classes for military and civilians and my wife is now the President of Grossmont College (where San Diego, La Mesa, El Cajon, and Santee meet). Our son is 10 and having a great time in school. All is good, slowly getting in touch with people. Send me an email and let me know how y'all are doing!!
I'm still around, married and working in Orange County. Geirge - where are you? Call me.

Mar Vista CA
Once a local always a local! Living in Mar Vista enjoying my own construction
business. The Westside has changed so much, sometimes I miss Santa Monica in
the 1970's... Anyone seen George Cuence ('79), Tony Hamilton ('79), Laurie Estes
('80) ? And the list goes on.... Look forward to hearing from you! Long live
Samo!
Recnely moved from North Carolina to Colorado. Looking forward to being closer to family and friends out west. North Carolina was TOO FAR away. I still work for USDA's Plant Protection & Quarantine.
Happily married for 16 years and living in Everett, Washington. I am a stay-at-home mom to two sons ages 13 and 12. My husband is a Pali grad, but we love him anyway and give him grief at every opportunity. Volunteer time is spent at the middle schools and with Boy Scouts of America. If I had the self-confidence in high school that I have found in my adult years, maybe fewer of you would be saying "Renee who?!?"
Single and living in Atlanta ! Where have the years gone ? Have done 10 years in the Air Force and now 20 in the IT arena. Looking forward to catching up with old friends. Jeff
After SAMOHI, went to USC. Met my future husband on Semester at Sea traveling the world. Worked in Sales and Management at IBM for many years. We've been married over 20 years, have 2 great kids (daughter 13 and son 11). We've lived many places but now live in a mountain resort town in McCall, Idaho (lake, skiing, etc) and really enjoy it. Get back to Santa Monica about once a year (my mom and sister still live out there). Can't believe the 30 year reunion is coming up. Hope to see many old friends then. Still keep in touch with some friends from Samo and would love to hear from anyone.

Tarzana CA
I am single, never married, no children, currently in a matchmaking service, meeting many women for the last 2.5 years but nothing serious yet. I'm in my 9th year of teaching instrumental music for LA Unified School District. Most of it has been middle school, except for one year of high school, and this year I'm at 4 elementary schools, spending too much time on freeways.
Living in Tarzana, west San Fernando Valley, since 1999.
I am a longtime SAA member who enjoys reading about classmates and other alumni, and the past and present events at Samohi. Life is pretty good with family and friends in abundance.
I am looking forward to the (gulp) 30- year reunion next year! I would truly enjoy hearing from anyone I knew from the classes of 1977 through 1981 who would like to update me on their life!
After graduating from Samohi, I wondered for a while, enjoying life at the beach and travel. My life has taken me on many wonderful journeys. I have been happily married to my husband Steven for 18 years. We have no children, as my husband kindly refers to us as DINKS. We have three cats and two desert tortoises. I haven't ventured to far from Santa Monica. We've lived in San Diego since 1990 and we love it. My career has taken me in many different directions, but I've found my nich in computers/networks. I am a Sr. Tech Associate for a firm in San Diego. I would love to here from other Samohi Alum.

After high school I went into the Air Force and got stationed in Texas. In 1985 got on with the Fire Department and have been here ever since. Married for the second time with five kids (2 yours, 2 mine, and one ours). Putting one through college and have three in high school. Life is just too busy. I hope to reconnect with a few friends later in life. Everyone seems to be too busy right now. For me, the worst thing about getting older is the loss of friendships. If you read this then maybe you remember me from high school. Send an email. I'd love to hear from you.
New York City (Manhattan) NY
Still handling the movies after all these years. For the last 14 years working for Paramount Pictures in Hollywood. Now transfered to the New York office. And living in Manhattan, near the Crossroads of the World.

After twenty years in the Asset Management business working for Morgan Stanley & Wachovia, I've become fortunate enough to form my own Asset Management firm back in Malibu. I see the ocean from my office and it reminds me of Malibu's "Days Gone By". I've never been happier in my life than today.

I have spent a lot of time working in various areas of media, including my current position as Executive Editor/Editor E-Publishing for Security Sales, a Bobit Publishing Co. magazine. I finally got married to a beautiful Long Island girl named Jill in 2000 and continue to be involved with many of my high school preoccupations -- music (many of you probably remember me carrying around my boom box and blaring funk music), sports, movies, nature and technology. If you remember me and want to say hello, please E-mail me. Long live the class of '79!
I've been living in the Portland area for four years, now. I have two bright and beautiful blonde daughters (how'd I get blonds?!?). One's a native Petaluman (that's NoCal) and one's a native Alohan (that's OR). I'm still the breadwinner - still working for the same firm I transferred up here with. My mom and brother live nearby, and most of the rest of my SM/WestSide family have gone to other places: I was looking for a good excuse to make a trip back to SoCal, but I don't see any 25th class reunion! If something gets planned, I hope someone will let me know in advance!
I'm feeling very nostalgic these days (is that another word for old?), with one daughter currently in high school and one away at UCLA. Time flies! We've been living in Orange County for over 20 years now, but with one child at UCLA and the other with her "best best" friends in LA, I visit my old stomping grounds frequently. I sure wish my mom would have kept her rent-controlled apartment for get-aways! I'm currently working as a self-employed legal assistant/paralegal, which basically means I'm working part-time for the highest bidder. It's hard to believe the 30-year reunion is only a couple years away. If anyone would like to get in touch before then, please feel free!

My wife, Blythe, and I have lived in Charlotte, NC for over 15 years. We have 7 wonderful children (4 girls and 3 boys) ranging in ages from 18 to 4. Charlotte has been a great place to raise a family. I have practiced law for the last 15 years, and am currently serving as General Counsel to the largest domestic Steel manufacturer. We don't ever get to the beach, but this summer for our 20th anniversary, my wife and I are going to Barbados. Should be GREAT!! I had looked forward to attending the 20 year reunion, but we were not able to work out our schedules, but do hope there is a chance at a 25 year reunion. I look back on our high school years with fondness. It is always great to hear how y'all are doing, so write via e-mail or snail mail. All the best! Doug.
Loving life these days. I'm a counselor of gifted children, adolescents, and adults. Happily married to Rob, a writer and programmer. Mom of 5-year old Amber. Living in a GREAT little city: Boulder, Colorado.
Santa Monica
I'm working as a Quality Manager for a medical device company here in the Bay Area. I have been married for 19+ years. We have 2 teenagers (13 and 16). I graduated from Humboldt State University in '84 with a Bachelors degree in Biology. Thanks Mr. Perry for the vision. It's always great to hear from old friends.
Married '80 alum Steve Plichta. We have been married 26 years and have 4 children and 2 grandchildren. Steve is currently serving in Iraq. He and I both would love to hear from any of our old friends.
I am a licensed massage therapist now living in Nashville, Tennessee
I am still in California, married and have 2 daughters 5yrs. & 9yrs. Work for the same architectural firm in Century City for the last 20yrs!!, as a project coordinator for large scale commercial tenant improvements. Life is good. Would love to here what everyone else is up to.

house in the East Bay hills, with a 3-bridge view. Life is good!
I married my college sweetheart, Doug Peterson, whom I met while living in the dorms at UC Santa Cruz. We live in a quiet neighborhood in San Jose with our shepherd/lab mix Jenny. I'm the chair of the French Deparment at De Anza College and Doug teaches first grade at Del Roble Elementary school. In the evenings we're also active in the De Anza College choral music programs. Next spring quarter (2005) I will be teaching in Paris with my college's Campus Abroad program. Life is good.
Dethroned Yell King(78). US Air Force 80-88. US Army 89-01. Retired Blackhawk Helicopter pilot(FEB 01). Married 20 years (May 02), no kids (by choice). Not a lawyer, haven't written a book. Just a Project/Program Engineer in Carrollton, TX. No hair--just the goatee. The look fits well with the Softail Deuce. Still looking for Glogovac & Wherlock. Hard to believe Fred Turner is STILL an asst VP! Best memories: those cinnamon rolls they sold every morning at the cafeteria windo near the top of the Greek theater. Mmmmm...... Drop me a line...I just might surprise you and write back.
I finially thought about doing this after all these years. Currently, I live in Castro Valley, Calif with my wife Janice, my beautiful daughter, Sheridan Margaret(8)and Shannon Teresa(5), whom we all refer to as Shannon the Cannon. Oh, we have two black cats that I can't stand. I have been working for the same insurance company for 20 years. Also did a 4 year stint in the U.S. Navy. I don't know if anybody remembers me, but would love to hear from anybody.
Went to SMCC after graduating Samo. Then graduated from SMCC, worked at several companies in the accounting departments. Married in 1995 to Bruce, graduate of Pali, class of '74. We live in Manhattan Beach with our two boys, ages 7 1/2 and 6. I am a stay at home mom for now.
I graduated in 1979 with everyone else. I was married July 2,1980 (24 years now to same lady). I have 3 children (22,16,12), the oldest getting married soon. I am a US Army Infantry veteran, am presently employed at a large gas/electric utility company in Washington state, Gas corrosion control department for 12 years, a nursing home chaplain, and an elder at my church. I have only heard from one person from Samohi since leaving, but I would like to hear from somebody, email is john.mcdivitt@pse.com. Sincerely, John

Slow day at work so I thought I would update the class. Still in No. Cal., this time as VP of Product Development for an East Bay company as well as celebrating my 20th year in specialty manufacturing of restoration parts for cars. Built some neat projects and met some great people along the way. Married Carolyn Johnson (class of 80) and we have two daughters, Isabelle 8, and Aria 5. Took them to the SM Pier last year and a tour of nostalgic SM. Still a great place to live, but lots of Starbucks and home decorator stores, more or less the same...except for the 7 figure homes. We were fortunate to have gone to such a great school and enjoyed the company of good friends, some who are still good friends. It's great to read the listings and see what people have accomplished in the past 20 some years. "Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. After all these years of being out of school, I decided to go back. I'm currently
working on a Masters in Direct Marketing at Northwestern University. This summer
I'll be at IBM in White Plains, NY. I would love to hook up with old friends
by e-mail, since I've been pretty poor at contacting people personally.
I am presently living in Oklahoma City, OK, which is definitely a long way from the beach. I am running a small company involved in financial management.
Long Beach, CA
After high school I went to Australia for the summer, then came back and went into banking, which I decided I hated so I returned to school at 25 to get a degree in Civil Engineering. I finished up at Cal State Long Beach in 93 and got a job as a project engineer for a structural engineering firm right after the Northridge earthquake, which is where I still am. I took the Professional Civil Engineering exam in April and should get the results in July. I also went back to Cal State Long Beach last semester (part time) and started working toward my masters in Civil Engineering.
I've been married to Mark Reynolds for 7 years and we own a home in Long Beach, no kids yet, but lots of animals (cats, dogs, lizard, snakes, etc.)
Also Ive been in several bands since high school. My current band is NOT the mimis, I sing and play bass. I have a web site for the band under construction, so you can see it soon at not-the-mimis.com. I also started Tae Kwon Do about a year ago and am just about to test for my blue belt. All in all, things are good. Id love to hear from some of you so drop me an e-mail if you get the chance!

Still living in CT, now with my daughter Judy. Still working as an accountant, still have nightmares about Tassie Hadlock's AP History class :) Would love to hear from anyone who relocated to the eastern united states. After 9/11 (local news for me - lost 3 people whom I knew pretty well)am very interested in tracking down old friends and lost loves.
I'm back in school again - studying counseling. Just returned from Europe. Lived there 17 of the last 20 years -the past 10 years in Amsterdam. Now I'm in Colorado with husband, Brian, and 2 kids age 14 and 11.
My daughter Judy and I live in a Norman Rockwell town in Central Connecticut. I'm an accountant for a long-term care facility, she's currently a kindergartener - but hopefully will not be forever.. We're busy members of our synagogue, mothers to our two cats, and spend our free time bike-riding or scootering to the local park, ice cream parlor or pizza place. Haven't made it to a reunion but do read the updates on our class occasionally. Happy 2007!
Santa Monica, CA
I actually graduated from Big Bear High School, but since I spent my sophomore and junior years at Samohi, it remains my true alma mater. I have been in the Air Force for nearly 14 years and I'm currently stationed in Tokyo, Japan on my way to Portugal next spring. I work as a television field reporter for Air Force News. I haven't been able to attend any class reunions, so I was very happy to see that Samohi on the internet!
I've lost touch with a lot of my friends, but I always think
back fondly of the times at Samohi. Some of my favorite teachers
were Miss Escalante and Miss Rodriguez for Spanish class and a
bearded teacher who taught Rock Poetry...what a cool class!! I
always want to visit the campus when I'm in town...does anyone
know if it's permissible? Until then, I'll visit Samohi through
cyberspace.

The Stan of all trades. I've done it all since the last class of the seventies retired. It's been a bit of a ride. I still have fond memories of our famous high school and must say I'm proud to be an alumni. Anyone looking to relocate to hot Arizona should contact me. I'm a licensed Realtor for Century 21. Maybe I'll have a chance to see some of you at reunion 25!

I'm happy as a clam living here in the central Nevada desert. I miss the ocean but wouldn't change a thing about my life.
Wow, how time has passed! So much has happened, so little time to recap. My children are grown, my 30th wedding anniversary looms a mere 10 months away and I believe I will finish my nursing degree before I retire. Life is good! Would love to hear from one and all.

Living in Culver City, and working in broadcast management for DirecTV. Since Mr. Wexler's film class in Lincoln Junior High, I have remained dedicated to the behind-the-scenes segment of the television biz. (I don't have the face to be in-the-scene!) Have a lovely wife, Jody, and three children, ages 6, 13, and 18 (two girls, one boy). Every one in a while, the kids break out my yearbooks to laugh at the goofy, and sometimes profane, things my peers wrote in them. My mom still lives in the same apartment on Euclid St. in SM, and I love visiting the town, although it was much better there when we were kids. I miss those days.
Have been practicing orthopaedic surgery in Santa Rosa for nearly 15 years. Have two kids in high school (was Samohi really like this??); wife Amy works at Sonoma State U. I enjoy mountain and road biking, running when not busy putting in new hips and knees! Embarrassed to admit I've become a Giants fan! Hope to make it to 30 year reunion-

Well, ya do know. Doesn't seem like 79 was so far back. Here I am getting ready to have one son get married and become an instant grandpa. I don't feel that old... but hey I can still rock out on the guitar (even if it's 'classic' rock). My nephew is trying to make the music scene and is currently on tour on the east coast. The link is on my myspace page. Swing by and drop a note. Perhaps folks can work up a 30 year reunion by making a cruise to Alaska July 09. A toast of Griffen Cab Franc or Erath Pinot to you all.
Hey hey!! Planted myself in Costa Mesa, CA, as close to the beach as possible. Gotta have the sea breeze blowing through my house. Hope everyone is healthy and happy. Working as a Legal Secretary for an international lawfirm. Playing softball here in OC has been good to me. My team, Make 'Em Cry! has won many a division title and is still going strong. I've done the marriage thing, and divorced 5 years later....go figure?? hehe. I've decided not to have children. My sister had 6 so I figure she's had mine. I'm lovin' my travelling and freedom to roam. Met up with Lydia Avila recently which was totally great. I enjoy connecting with classmates and learning about what they've been up to. Drop a line! Take care all!!
I am a mother of 5 year old twins living in Century City. My husband, Jon, passed away 3 years ago. I am the Chief Human Resources Officer for Children's Bureau. My kids are about to start at Franklin school, which just blows my mind! When I walk into the school it's such deja vu! Would love to hear from my fellow classmates.......aellertson@sbcglobal.net.

After designing electronic chips and circuitry for a number of years, I decided it was time for a career change to keep from getting too bored. I therefore picked up my law degree from U.S.C. and now practice intellectual property law in Century City at the firm of Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly LLP. I mainly do patent litigation work, but I also obtain patents for people covering electronics, computers, the Internet, and other fields. Ive also been doing volunteer work with Christmas in April South Central L.A., which works to rehabilitate homes of elderly and disabled residents of South Central, and is part of a national organization. I always enjoy the look on peoples faces when they find out that the guy crawling under their house fixing their plumbing is a lawyer. I was thrilled to see that Samohi finally got a Tartan track.

Just thought I would send in an update. In 1980,I was in a car accident and injured myself quite extensively. It has reared its ugly head again and I have taken an early disability retirement from the telecommunications field. I have moved to central Pennsylvania. I love it here. I have twin girls (Kathleen and Gretchen) who are 19. Kat is in college studying anthropology and Gretchen is engaged to get married. Are we getting old??? I have a 12 year old son (Daniel). He is in 7th grade. I am very involved in The SCA. It is an organization that recreates the middle ages. I have a lot of fun teaching about the Norse. I also teach some medieval arts and sciences at our events. I have not been back to Santa Monica since 1992. I understand it has changed quite a bit. I do miss the ocean. I have a lot of fond memories of Samohi and my friends there. Drop me a line and say hi.
