I have been married for 17 years, and have 2 children, a daughter 15, and a son 14. We are living in Southern Maryland (1 hour from Washington, D.C. I work out of our home as a Medical Transcriptionist. I have also spent a lot of time as an advocate for children with mental retardation and children with epilepsy, as our son suffers from both.
I was so happy to find this site. It's great to scroll through and see names I remember. Didn't graduate from Samohi but '76 would have been my year. Finished 11th grade and got my GED later. I have a 23 year old daughter who graduated this year from University of Colorado and now lives in New York. I married (for the 2nd time) (Gordon) Walter Slaughter-Class of '75. We now live in San Diego and loving it! Love to hear from anyone who remembers me...or us!
Hi! Yes I have finally found this sight. For those interested, Dan (Class of '75), and I finally made it down the wedding bliss isle. We have been married for 17 years and make our home in Fontana. We have raised three children, 19 year old son, Joe, 16 year old daughter Elizabeth, and our youngest Colleen who at 14 has just started high school. Those with teenagers will understand when Colleen says, "Mom I am almost 15!". Dan works for himself (can be scary at times) while I have continued to teach Pre-kindergarten. Graduated from Santa Monica College ('79) and took course work at SDSU ... I loved San Diego somuch I just stayed and stayed for awhile longer then moved back to Santa monica and reconnected with Dan. Now once again I am finishing up my educational goal at Azusa Pacific. One day I'll get that "Math" course done :-). My mother's family (Lugo's) all were Samohi grad's too and have encouraged me to "keep in touch" through the Alumni association ... okay, okay, Uncle Joe here I am! Would enjoy hearing from the "Old Gang"
Hi, it's been fun going through this website and catching up on what you all are doing! After high school I went to UCSD and received a BA in Economics with minors in Spanish Lit and Music. I was married a few months later and now have 9 children ages 23-4. Crystal the oldest is a NICU RN and is developing modules for care within the NICU. Adam, next oldest, married a wonderful gal this summer and is finishing up an AA in web design. Curtis joined the Marines and is excelling there. The other six I am homeschooling. They range from 11th grade through Kindergarten. I'm still a bookworm and I've taken up quilting. I still enjoy playing my flute as well.
Living in the San Fernando Valley. Was married to Nancy De Cou (class of 77) for 25 years, but no longer am. Have 2 great kids both in college. Looking back it's hard to believe we are all in our late 40's now! Wow never thought about that in the good ole Samohi days!
Santa Monica CA
After high school, I started working in the Marina Del Rey and ended up on a sailboat going to Hawaii. I stayed for a few years working as deckhand and then captain of a catamaran working out of Kailua-Kona. No money in it, got rock fever. Came back. Got into constuction. Got married. Adopted a Daughtor, Marrisa (Nikki) Barker, class of '99 and had a Son, Patrick, 14 years old now. Got divorced. Am now working for myself as an electrical contractor living back in Santa Monica. All these years of living and working at the beach and I have to get into snow skiing. (even skied Hawaii) I look back at high school and feel as if I where a ghost. It's a shame how few of you I really knew. I am happy, healthy, and blessed in so many ways. I hope you may say the same.
Hi all! A lot has happened over the last 30 years, but I never fail to feel nostalgic whenever I return to Santa Monica. I am currently living in San Diego (love it here!), am a stay-at-home mom to 6 year old Alexandra (adopted from China in 2001), my marital status can best be described as "alternative," and my other "children" include 3 geriatric dogs (who occupy more time than you would think). Although I didn't really put my degree in Cognitive Science (graduated from UCSD in '95) to much use (having quit working upon getting Alex's referral in 2000), getting the degree was a wonderful, enriching experience for me anyway. So, right now I am playing the role of domestic goddess, but life is long, and I'm ready to roll with the changes as they come. Take care everyone! Oh and, I've always wanted to know who put an anonymous (wax sealed!) note in my yearbook in '76 - I still wonder about that from time to time...
Nice to find this site and remember the good times in high school. I married in 1986 and had my son in 1988 he is 18 now. I have been in the medical field as a RN in the ER for many years and now I work as a regional manager for a medical group in the South Bay. No longer live in Santa Monica and I really do miss it. Am looking forward to the 30yr reunion in a couple of weeks and hope to see many old friends there.
Greetings Classmates! After graduating mid-term at Carlsbad
High School I attended Cosmetology school and received my license.
I worked at La Costa Spa working on the likes of Dustin Hoffman's
mother and Stockard Channing (Rizzo from Grease). I married for
the first time at the old age of 24. I remarried at 30 and have
two girls, Kristen Elizabeth and Shelby Jade from that marriage.
I became a word processor and at one point in my career I held
a Secret clearance for the government. I recently married again
for the third and final time to my wonderful husband Bart O'Brien.
He is from Brooklyn. We both work for Edison Source in Anaheim
which is company that does grocery store refrigeration.

I have lived in the Seattle area since 1982 after I graduated from the University of Oregon. I have missed the warm California weather and mostly the beach and hearing the waves but I love the northwest. I have two children from my first marriage, Brooke (17) and Douglas (16). I am still wondering what I should be when I grow up but in the meantime I enjoy working as an underwriter for apartment loans. My husband is a fantastic builder and we live in the home that he built. I still play a lot of tennis and my son is on his high school tennis team. My daughter just returned from France where she was an exchange student for a year. She is now fluent in French and hopes to become a French teacher one day. Other news...still petite. I never did hit a growth spurt and apparently my daughter follows in her mother's footsteps. I still come down to California to visit once a year. My parents now live in Santa Barbara so I get my California fix. Would love to hear from anyone. I do keep in touch with a couple of friends...Ginger Arnold and Denise Mervel. See you all at the 2006 (30 year???!!!)reunion.

I graduated early (11.5) to go to the Air Force. I have not

My degree in biology has left me in medical research for the last two and a half years...but life could be a lot worse....I mean I could be in some forsaken country trying for bigger eyeholes in my "dress" Life is pretty good right now. I live in Redlands and it has the small city feel that Santa Monica did so many years ago. My oldest son Joshua is 25 years old...can that be right? According to the calendar it is.
Hey Everyone! I'm finnaly getting around to posting my profile. I've been married for 22 years and have 2 wonderful boys, ages 17 & 15. The years just seem to fly. Hi Everyone!
Finally after working and living in Holland for a year and in Australia for about 2 years, I will be heading back to Southern California for a short 3 week visit. I wanted to let you know in case you wanted to catch up with me and my new love Katarina, before we return to Australia. We are bringing along our digital camera to document our visit, and if possible will borrow a video camera too, so that we can create a movie of our visit and send back to you, our friends, when we return to Australia.
We will not be doing too much tourist things, even though this is Katarina's first trip to the USA, as we will be on a shoe string budget. This trip is mostly to give my family quality time with us. And also gives me a change to introduce Katarina to my family and friends.
We will be in Southern California from May 25 through to June 14th, but will probably be dependent on public transportation as a rental car is not in the budget for our trip. Please let us know if we can get together with you while we are in California, and when would be a good time, so we can start to plan our schedule!
Talk to you really soon!
Mario and Katarina

Drop a line, I'll do my best to reply (I get hundreds a week, and occasionally one gets hidden for a while). Best wishes to all of you. Gaines

Hello to all my longtime friends and fellow Vikings. Here's a current picture of my family: husband Neal, daughter Laurel, sons Ethan & Jaret, and dog Tzimmes. We've survived the recent sink holes and fire storms in San Diego and are still smiling! Thanks to everyone for your good wishes and support.
Hi gang. Nice to see some names and faces from the past. All's well in my little world. I left SoCal in '94 for Washington state. I married a great girl from NYC but we divorced a few years ago. Happily, my ex wife remains my best friend. Two daughters, Kristen (25) and Chelsea (15)are the apples of my eye. So....no worries and darn few complaints. Hope the same for all of you. Sorry I missed the reunion. Cheers Doug
This Is Tim's daughter Jasmyn. My father passed away almost 12 years ago and
I thought you guys might want to know. He was a great Dad and a loving husband.
He was married to Elizabeth Taylor(not the famous one)and had two kids Jasmyn
23,Wesley16 and now has a Grandson Timothy 2 1/2. He died of complications of
Diabetes. He was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 7 so it was a long hard
road for him. If anyone has any stories or know anything about my dad please
drop me a note. I love learning more about him.
Still living in Southern California, I still visit Santa Monica on occasion. My father died within the last year and I had to sell the house I grew up in Santa Monica. On the positive side, I have been married 24 years to Patrick, an alumni of Notre Dame High School Class of 75. I have two grown children, John, who is now 22 and is in law enforcement; and Christopher who is 19 and currently going to trade school. After high school, I attended some college, met my future husband, and got married. Had two kids and then realized I wanted to become a lawyer. Went to law school at night for 4 years while still working (I don't recommend this to anyone!). Have been practicing law the last 14 years. Have recently decided to take a sabbatical from the practice of law and just enjoy my family. Would like to hear from anyone from Samohi's Class of 76!
married for 23 years. moved around a bit with husband's development job to palm springs, phoenix, seattle, finally settling in "fabulous" las vegas. 2 kids: rach (1985) and josh (1986)--the late 80's were very busy, needless to say! i was lucky enough to be a stay-at-home mom. last year we became empty-nesters--rach plays basketball at university of arizona in tucson and josh attends university of delaware. most of the rest of my family (parents, brother ken and wife, sister susie and family) all ended up in washington state.
I am living in Riverside with my husband Mark and my children Jen and Michael. I would love to hear from all my friends.

Lafayette, CA 94549
I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1980 when I began law school. I am now a partner in the San Francisco office of Ropers, Majeski, Kohn, and Bentley, and I work too many hours! Would much rather spend time with my husband of 11 years, Mike Danese, and my two wonderful boys, ages 7 and almost 4. What a neat website! Gets me a little choked up. I'm glad to read so many upbeat reports on people's lives. I missed the 20 year reunion but I'd like information on the 25th.
Aka…”one-of-the-Garvin-twins” Hey! I haven’t ventured more than 50 miles from SAMOHI in 30 years. I earned my AA at SMC, and became an RN…then continued to CSULB for my BSN…then completed my masters degree (the same weekend as our 20th reunion). I lived and worked in Long Beach for about 15 years specializing in oncology and cardiac care. In 1994, I jumped into biotech research at Amgen in Thousand Oaks. I developed a whole new set of skills in information system design and integration (can you say “nerd”?). In 2002, I quit the biotech biz…and yes, everyone thought I was crazy! It was really an internal ‘shift’ of sorts as I felt a calling to return to more traditional healthcare opportunities. I re-entered nursing as an educator in Ventura County with responsibilities for teaching palliative/hospice care in a small home health agency. Currently, I’m back in my data “niche” and have started a new position at St. John’s in Oxnard as a clinical data analyst. After losing a colleague/friend on September 11, 2001 (Flight 77) I wondered….”if this were my last day…is this what I want to be doing”…. I’m probably still wondering…. In 1999, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent major surgery (but no chemo or radiation). I was blessed to have a great surgical team (oncologists and a pioneer in reconstruction)… and we all wore custom T-shirts that read “Survival…or bust”. Some day I’m going to write a book…”Did you ever notice “tumor” rhymes with “humor”? I continue to volunteer at the local chapter of The Wellness Community speaking with newly diagnosed ‘survivors’. My folks still live in Malibu. For those who remember…our Dad finally sold his 1960 red Corvette! We chased many school buses in that car…trying to make it to SM for those early morning drill team practices! My sister, Diane is a teacher with LAUSD. She was married and has 2 talented and handsome sons. My brother, Todd, (SAMOHI ’72) and his wife both physicians are settled in the northwest (Bremerton, WA). The first of their 4 daughters graduated in May 2006 from USC and the others are following close behind. No marriage or kids for me…just not in my deck of cards. 30 years! My body seems to be keeping track better than my mind…it doesn’t seem that long ago…See ya at the reunion!
I live in the desert now and am the Human Resources director for a private golf club.

Hello to all. I have 3 beautiful daughters the oldest of which
is 20. That would be Alisa. Laura is 18 and a senior this year!
Can't believe it. Christen is the youngest, she is 15, she'll
be 16 in April. She plays volleyball! Finally got one of my kids
to play. She travels with a club team and I have alot of fun watching.
I had an accident five and a half years ago that left me with
a permanant disability. I have come a long way and the only tough
part for me was giving up VB. I am in school again, now that my
kids are older. Working slowly on a degree in Architecture. We'll
see what happens. My first husband died of cancer when the girls
were small. We got through that. It has brought us closer together
as a family. We live in Santa Barbara. Saw some of you at the
20 year reunion, it was a lot of fun. Hope you all are well. I
also hope more people get the word and sign in. Take care
Oceanside, Ca 92056
I've missed ALL of the reunions, was checking to see if there will be a 25th..Please fwd. any info that you can! Peace :)
I've been living a relatively non-conventional life (big surpise?) now in New York City. Been working in the music business for 22 years - dropped out of UCSC early in the game to surf and hang in Santa Cruz. Eventually got a job at a record store, and the rest has been loving life!
I currently am the General Manager of a large record label in New York. Working with music has been a passion, and recently I've picked up love of art. No better city than New York to explore those adventures!
I probably have more questions than information - what ever happened to...? High school was wonderful for me, so I have a lot of fond memories of friends and parties. I've run into a few friends over the years and most seem to be doing well. I wish you all the best!
Celia
I got married right after Samo to Colleen Martin also class of 76. We both went to USC and graduated there in 1980. We have recently moved to Hermosa Beach. We have two boys ages 8 and 16. Colleen and I have our own business "Berkeley Designs". We wholesale home decor and gift products.
I enjoying life living near the beach again, the father of two adults, Lisa and David. The husband of one wife (26 years in 2005). I am the director of engineering for a small electric motor company, California Linear Devices
Hello old friends! Yes, my hair is still long and frizzy, although there's a streak or two of grey nowadays. I never see any of my old Samohi friends, except Scott Anderson who I run into at the Costco in Azusa from time to time and Kathy Heddon who I've seen on Catalina and in Santa Barbara. I've been to most of the reunions, everyone says let's stay in touch, then they NEVER DO! I'm a mother of three (George 19, Marina 16 and Kenneth 11) and manage a law office for my husband George, who I met while attending UC Davis. I'm happy and hope all of you are too. See you in 2001 at the 25th.
Glendora CA
Yes, my hair is STILL long and frizzy, and streaked with a fair bit of silver too! My last posting said see you at the 25th reunion...then there was none. Is anyone gonna pull together a 30th in 2006? Would love to hear from all my old Samohi friends, rarely see or hear from anyone. Just celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary to husband George, a lawyer. I manage a small law office in Glendora and have three great kids...25, 21 and 16. I'm happy, hope you're happy too.

Hello everyone: I was kidnapped some years after graduating from Samohi and taken to New Zealand, the Land of The Long White Cloud, by a Kiwi (a woman, not the bird) and have lived here with my kidnapper since 1986. Stockholm Syndrome eventually overcame me and we now have two very special sons, Christian (15) and Julian (12) both of whom pronounce the number TEN like it made of copper and nickel,"Tin". We live in Christchurch, a city in the South Island (they understate everything down here: there are two islands; you're either in the South Island or, you guessed it, the North Island) inhabited by approximately 400,000 people and 4,000,000 sheep, living in perfect symbiotic harmony. I am an immigration lawyer (although I must say I myself took the easy way into the country by marrying a Kiwi - a woman, not the bird) so if any of you are not content to just drop me an email, and feel you'd like to investigate the possibility of a permanent stay (in either island) -- I can give! you professional advice. Regards to all of my old friends, I mean, my friends from old, no, regards to you all. Paulo
I now live in the Santa Cruz area, working as a software engineer.
I have a wife and 2 dogs & a cat (no kids yet). I love to
do most of the same things I enjoyed back then, surfing, skiing,
sailing, mt. biking, and some new things, such as exploring the
internet.
Building through out the Westside. Surfing when I can. Traveling at least once a year.
Hi everyone, I now live in N. Orange County with my boys 14 & 15, recently divorced my husband of 17 years (good thing). I'm an accountant by trade, but have a biz that takes corporate groups to Catalina for fun, team building, meetings, etc. Baseball is pretty much of our lives as the youngest plans on being the "best lefty Yankee pitcher of all time" I have no idea where he gets that from. We spend a lot of time at the beach and the usual stuff that we all do.
I have become the new owner of the GateWay Restaurant & lodge in Three Rivers, California.
My family moved to Oklahoma during the summer of 1975, and that's where I graduated high school. Met and married my wife Kate there in 1978, then returned to California. Graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with an MS in mathematics, spent a couple years in a Ph.D. program at UCSB, and have been working as a software engineer for 18 years. We have two children, Michelle (21 - junior at UCLA) and Lee (14 - into track, tennis, academics).
Hello. After graduating from SAMOHI, I went to Humboldt State and became acquainted with the costal redwoods, and much rain, and earned a BA in Chemistry in 1981. Then, I went to Purdue University for graduate school. I met my future wife the first day I arrived ar Purdue, Janice, who was also a graduate student (19+ years of being happily married with no end in sight!). At Purdue, I experienced the madness of Big-10 football and basketball fans! Also, having grown up in SoCal, I got to live through new things such as freezing snow in the winters, being surprised by red bluejays (aka cardinals) in the spring, walking slowly in the terrible humidity in the summers, and viewing the wonderful colors in the fall. My wife earned her PhD in Biochemistry in 1988, and I followed with a PhD in Biochemistry in 1989. We moved to Davis, CA, in 1989 to pursue post-doctoral research positions at UC Davis. We adopted, by choice, two girls: Sara at age 3 in 1991; and Carla at age 7 in 1994. They are both in the 8th grade now. Because of the adoptions, we changed our career plans and remained in Davis to give our girls a stable home life. After several years of research at UC Davis, I switched to teaching a biochemistry lab class and cell biology lecture class at UC Davis, which I have been doing for 3 years and beginning my 4th, and my wife became an internship coordinator at UC Davis for the biotech industry. It has been greatly rewarding and fun for the both of us. What will my wife and I do in the future? We shall see.....I hope anyone who reads this stuff is happy and healthy, and best wishes to you.
I've recently been employed with a branch of the Department of Justice Los Angeles Regional law enforcement agency as their accounting clerk. Very interesting to be here considering how wild I was through high school! Getting to know the kind of people that enforce out laws has been very educational to say the least. It's a trip working with agents and all levels of officers walking around with guns and badges yet very kind gentle souls. I always kind of thought this type of work would make a person be rather distant or very out of touch. But that's not the case at all. And the stories I've heard regarding busts that go on, wild! I also have recently relocated to Westminster in Orange County, but plan to eventually move back to Torrance, CA. If anyone has heard from Harold,(high school nickname was Popeye),Johnson please email me. I would like to know how he is doing these days. Thanks. God Bless, Monica

My youngest daughter, Alex (16) goes to L A County High School for Arts where one of her classmates is the son of Diane Garvin a former majorette with me not to mention her husband knows my husband from professional music. What a small world. Another small world story, my daughter Maria was working for a doctor in Santa Monica and Bobby Herron (Victor Viking '73) walked in and said I think you are my god daughter is your mom Marianne Souza? I also recently ran into Lemoine Dawson in a dark movie theatre where he recognized me after all these years. Anyway, I love to hear from people email me anytime. Marianne
I live in Santa Maria and work and surf at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Married to Sue for 22 years. I have 3 great kids, Sarah 21, Summer 20, and Jesse 17. Kids are not at all like I was! They do good at school and are good citizens. I "graduated" from Olympic in '76 and I am a construction project manager. I have had a very fun side job since 1996 as a President Clinton Look-A-Like! I've been on a few TV shows and commercials including Jay Leno 3 times. Made Time Magazine in Nov 2001. The magazine had Osama Bin Laden on the cover with crosshairs trained on his forehead! Dogtown and ZBoys revived a lot of memories and I've started skateboarding again.

Hi to all my old buddies. I was pretty shy and imploded at SMHS and didn't actually graduate but left school a year early and entered the University of North Dakota. After graduating with a degree in biology, and a year in a masters program in animal physiology, i discovered my love of teaching and left for NYC to teach in a private school. In 1984, i moved to Palm Springs and have been teaching high school ever since. I am married to an artist/sculptor/teacher and have a beautiful 14 year old daughter. I love to do yoga, hike, read, and play piano (haven't touched the cello in 20 years). Recently, i created a product for yoga enthusiasts and have started my own company called OM Planet. Please visit my website! Hoping that all my old buddies, et. al. will contact me. Where are you Jean Wooden?
Graduated in 1976, attended UCLA and received BSEE and MSEE. Currently resides in northern California working for Atheros communications as a RF systems Engineer
I've relocated around the country a few times since graduating and finally have settled (hopefully) in glorious Colorado. While I enjoyed experiencing the history of the East, I enjoy the blue skies and mountain views of Colorado, and yes, even the snow!
I left Samohi in the fall of '76 via GED through the Torrance
School System and the U.S. Army, but that led back to SMC and
an adult life. I have had many professions since then. I spent
3 years as scenic artist at the RenFaire; 10 years as a dance
hall disc-jockey; then 8 years with Wells Fargo Bank; and I am
now permanently disabled, in a long term relationship (some of
you met my partner at the '96 reunion), and have been living with
HIV/AIDS since 1992.
I'm now living back in Santa Monica. I have a big and fast computer,
and am relatively happy. Hope everyone I went to school with is
also.
Blessings to all.
I moved to San Diego in 1985 after graduating from CSUN with a degree in accounting. I am a CFO for a large manufacturing company in San Diego, and live with my husband Jaimie, daughter Leslie (14) and son Andrew (11).
I look forward to hearing from classmates in the area!
Systems programmer (23 year carreer in data procesing). Married 20 years in April 2001. Daughter, Chrystal,18 years. Son, Scott, 11 years (and his feet are bigger than mine..gawd!). Still have the archery bow I carried to class, but have not shot an arrow in ages. Remember the AMC Pacer? I just bought my second. I hope I can keep this one running long enough to drive it to the next reunion.

Graphic designer, computer wonk, happily married, lovely 12-year-old daughter.

I had a blast at the 30 year reunion!
I am continue my career in entertainment. Acting, teaching, directing, producing & writing.
My boys are adults now and I am residing in the Bay area wine country with Kim Jackson. I hope you'll look me up when in the area. I wrote this for the site in 1997: I graduated from the Alternative School (SMASH). Since there is no alumni assoc. that I know of for them, I've returned to Samohi, my old friend. I was the commissioner of entertainment in '75, when I put on about nine or so different bands and shows during lunch, did the morning announcements, often very altered, ran through the quad naked when streaking was fashionable, and played in a half dozen plays after giving up my spot on the varsity tennis team.
Now I'm a father of two boys, Nicholas (born '86) and Spencer, (born '89) and live with my old Lincoln Junior High girlfriend (For all of three months), Kimbell Jackson, who I had not seen for over 23 years. She would have been in the Samohi Class of '78, I think, but school stressed her out and she was tutored at home. I have continued working in the acting profession and have learned that if you don't have relatives in the biz, or marry into it, or have the luck of a leprechaun, you can't make it unless you're really wacko. Luckily I'm the later and have been able to survive a rude biz by doing some small roles in major films and TV shows, as well as theater and amusement parks.
After 17 years I left Universal Studios where I started playing Stan Laurel, Charlie Chaplin, Groucho Marx and Dr. Frankenstein on any given day-Sunday through Thursday...I do seminars and career days on the business of acting and private coaching. And I have now given birth to my new career in writing. I have a handful of projects that are short stories, scripts and poetry. I'd love to hear from folk from Samohi who may or may not remember my hijinks and especially those who did films with Arron Salter, Eve Litchgarn and Others... Boy I loved being around the beautiful kids in school. I may have been over board, but it was because I loved being there.
Nothing really new to report. I have been working at City National Bank for ten years plus now. Still live in Santa Monica, See a few familiar faces every now and then and keep in touch with a few "chosen" classmates. Hope we have a reunion soon! Free to send me an email to reminisce!
