I said that I would never build another new home, but in 2005 we moved to Cedar City, UT to be closer to family and of course built another home. We are still within 35 minutes of a ski resort and enough lakes to keep us from getting homesick for our last home in Bend, OR and we have miles of ATV trails in all directions. Love to hear from anybody.

Aloha to all, I retired from United Airlines as a Flight Attendant in May 2003 after moving back to Kauai from Hong Kong. I had a fantastic 32 years with United and it seemed like a great time to depart! I am now living on Kauai with my husband Ed Sindt, managing my own vacation rental property on Kauai and that has been keeping me busier than when I flew! Who knew! Love living here in paradise, no better place than Santa Monica but this is a good alternative. I am a grandmother to 4 beautiful children, 2 from Perry's daughter Kelly Bates Siegel, Class of 1985 and 2 from Ed's son Kevin Sindt who currently lives in Brunswick, GA, despite they are far away from us, we do our best to get to see them often. Life is grand, hope it is likewise for my alumni friends. Good Health and loving family is all there is! I am grateful for both. Come & rent my vacation rental and say hi! Aloha, Kathy
Married Cathy (John Muir HS, Pasadena, CA) in 1968. Two kids, Tim and Colleen. Lived in Orange County until we moved to Colorado in 1980. Three grandkids. Enjoying life, even though I am still working (for Insurance Services Office.) Cathy is a teacher at a juvenile detention facility.

It's hard to believe that we are approaching our sixties. We grew up in the sixties! I became a first time grandma on March 25,2004. My daughter Barbara gave birth a beautiful little girl named "Halen" (that's right as in Van Halen). She is definetly Daddy's girl. I have never seen such a happy baby, so much love! Now I know the blessings of being a grandparent. There is no other feeling like it. It is truly the reward for raising our children. To all my Samohi friends, God's many blessings to you all.
I finally returned to the West. I am head of a biology department at University of Arizona and I am enjoying sunny Tucson.
Hello, Anyone Who Remembers Me!! The only classmate I've kept in touch with all these years is Feather (Mary) WHITEHOUSE King. My memory is excruciatingly bad, and I don't remember anyone else from my class. I know, I know. It's a terrible thing to admit. But.... it's sadly true. Oh, there is one other person. Steve Merken. Anyone know where he might be? I'd love to get in touch with him. I'd also love to hear from anyone else. Thanks. Bye.

Pet Peeve: Upon graduating from Santa Monica High School, I was angry and felt cheated that I was counseled into General Education, particularly when my non-Black peers were counseled into college preparatory programs. It was a humiliating experience to watch my fellow students getting accolades during the 1963 graduation ceremony for being accepted to West Point, Notre Dame, USC, etc., while me and a number of other minority students sat idly by with a stereotypically directed future in the service industry. Upon graduating, I worked a year, joined the Army on a lunch break and was influenced by others to attend college and chase a dream that my mother had thwarted the same way, stereotypical counseling. I'm no longer bitter or angry, just an advocate that all kids can learn and there are higher education institutions for all who either want to go to college on there on or are encouraged with good counseling to go, etc.

One screenplay produced, 1995/taught college English at CSUN and in a max security women's prison/ran animation studio in L.A./lived in England 13 years/now working as free-lance editor and full-time Senior Editor on an American Chemistry Society journal at UCLA. After Samohi I attended Santa Monica City College, a flight academy, Arizona State University, two years in the Army and finished my final year at ASU in 1972. After two years as an acoustical consultant in Seattle I accepted a scholarship to Stanford University graduating with an M. S. in Engineering in 1976. I worked for the Bechtel companies internationally for ten years and then for my own management consulting firm for a year. In 1986 I joined Charles Salter Associates, consulting engineers in acoustics, where I have since been a Director working with airport noise, forensic audio for criminal cases, architectural acoustics, amphitheater design and a variety of other projects. I have two children: Ellen who is a sophomore at Stanford University, and Jake who is a high school sophomore in Walnut Creek. My current wife, Carol, and I have been married for eleven years and enjoy travel and our boat 'Camelot'. I would like to hear from Samohi classmates (jfreytag@pacbell.net).
I am still working for Greyhound Lines Inc.(since 1969) I have been married to Nelda Kay Feike, (since Dec. 30, 1966). I am very honored to be able to submit some information about myself. Especially since my expereince at SAMOHI left such a tremendous impression on me. While there, I was active in band, choir and the senior play and have wonderful memories of each. I now live with my wife Jackie in a beach community 35 miles north of Seattle. I consult and teach in business development and managment and am adjunct faculty at two universities. I am also a lay eucharistic minister in my Episcopal Church. I left Santa Monica right after graduation and never found my way back except for occassional visits. I also regret that I have lost touch with my classmates. I welcome the opportunity to reconnect and hope to attend the 40 year reunion. This is a wonderful website and it surfaces wonderful memories. Thanks! Frank

Looking to our 40th reuniuon in October,2003.
I love the SLO country, with my kids, grandkids, and my '56 Chevy Nomad. Give me a call if you're in the area.
See you characters at the reunion in October!
Married to my best friend for almost 40 years ( Ron, Venice '60), we have two children Lynn (35)married to Steve and Scott(32) married to Amy, and two magnificent grandchildren, Rachel and Jonathan. I have been working as a school administrator for over 30 years and last semester became an adjunct professor at SMC and LMU. We enjoy traveling and have plans to visit Brazil and Argentina this summer (2005). I have extremely fond memories of SAMOHI and would enjoy hearing from others in our class.
Hi! After Samo, I got a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA, moved to Canada to work, married, located in a rural area to raise our 5 children where we had a farm + produce store. When 2 of our kids were recruited for sports scholarships in Idaho, we moved down here in 1990. I returned to school and got a Masters in Applied Psychology, Community College Teaching from Eastern Washinigton University in 1995. Currently, my husband and I are both tenured faculty (me in Psychology and he in Math) at North Idaho College, a beautiful community college on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene. We have a local Samohi alumni group that meets at least once a year, since quite a few alums have located here. Stop by and see us if you are in the area.
Living in Lompoc (means "stinky water" in Chumash) CA. No traffic, no standing in line...ect. Everyone in Lompoc has "5 minutes to chat", which is delightful. Lots of land and farms. I rent some acreage and run a wholesale nursery and cut flower business. We sell flowers in Farmers Markets and stores. I work for a Software Company as a tech support specialist. I worked as a Computer Programmer during the 70's and 80's. Been going where life leads me since the 90's. Divorced since 87, I have 2 kids. My daughter is a Physical Therapist and my son graduated from UCLA and is in grad school now. I graduated from CSUN in 70. I enjoy reading about those of you with whom I grew up.

After leaving Samohi I started working in the Motion Picture and Television
Industry as a driver. I left for two years in 1965-'67 to serve in the U.S.Navy
Seabees in Vietnam. Upon my return I went back to the studios. I once again
left in 1979 to become the Harley-Davidson dealer in Albany, OR. This in when
I found that OR is a beautiful place to live, but a poor place to make a living.
So in 1983 it was back to Hollywood where I still work.
I have a 28 year old son and best of all I have no idea where my ex is.
Just 13 more years of work and its time to retire. I plan on moving somewhere
in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
My hobbies are restoring antique cars and motorcycles and collecting "Old
Stuff".
Left beautiful Santa Monica in 1983 and move to Dallas, Tx. Miss Santa Monica but love Texas. Would love to hear from Kathy Gairich and other old friends. Samohi was a special school at a special time.
Never managed to get away from Santa Monica. Living in Brentwood, semi-retired, staying active on the Santa Monica Conservancy as a docent guiding tours of Historic Downtown SM Buildings. Trying to keep a sense of humor as the years pass, and it isn't that hard to do when you remember all the good old times at Samohi. Best wishes to all my old friends.
After Samohi, I briefly attended SMCC and then graduated from Cal State, Long Beach with both B.S. and M.S. degrees. I recently "retired," after spending 35 years in law enforcement (21-years in Torrance and 14-years as Chief of Police in Tiburon, CA). I am busier than ever, still being a member on a multiple of law enforcement advisory boards (e.g. the California Police Chiefs Asso. as a past-president, international law enforcement institutes, the area of threat assessment, etc.). I also facilitate courses for new CA police chiefs for the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training and do law enforcement consulting.
Further, I stay active by being a "professional" member of nonprofit boards (e.g. American Red Cross, American Red Cross, etc.). During my "spare time," I play as much golf as possible and try to devote as much time to my family as I should have when I was working as a police chief. My lovely wife, Susan, volunteers her singing/piano talents in rest homes and Alzheimer's facilities in Marin County. We have two fine academically-inclined and very athletic sons -- Brad, a HS senior, has received his "early decision" acceptance to the University of Puget Sound for next Fall and Jordan is a HS sophomore.
I do, in fact, miss the "old" Santa Monica and have not missed a single "Class of '63 Reunion" since graduation. The "Viking News" and Samohi alumni website have helped feed my passion for the nostalgia of my youthful days growing up in wonderful Santa Monica.

I came to Santa Monica High School from a really small school in Northern California, and was quite intimidated at first. I didn't know many people as there was sooo many of them. I do remember a guy named Bob Wilde who took me under his wing and helped me find my way around. He was a real good friend, but I lost contact with him after I graduated.
I remember quite well taking ceramics from Mr. Maxwell. He
was a great teacher, and I met some nice kids in his class. I
am currently living in northern california and just getting into
this computer thing & loving it.You're doing a great job with
this page and I think it's great for you to do it so that the
ones who sign on might be able to catch up with an old classmate
he/she has been looking for or wondering about.

I enjoyed reading some of the bio's of our fellow classmates. Admittedly, I remember too few from those days but found it fascinating that so many of us had branched out across the U.S.
I retired in 1999 after spending 35.5 glorious years at GTE. Had a wonderful career and am currently enjoying the leisure days. I made a corporate move to Dallas in 1994 and, although I love it here, will probably be here another year before moving to the White Mountains of Arizona to a small town called Show Low. Golf, scuba diving, photography & travel are some of my passions.
Married to my husband since 1974 and most of our kids, grandkids and other family are still in CA.
Wishing you all the best and hope y'all are happy.

I have just returned to Los Angeles from 4 years in La Quinta California where I was the leasing agent for Old Town La Quinta shopping strolling and dining village in the heart of La Quinta. I tremendously enjoyed the time I spent in La Quinta, and am now at Sotheby's International Realty in Santa Monica. One of the highlights of 2005 for me was a reunion with three of my favorite class mates at Samohi to celebrate our "big" birthdays together in San Miguel De Allende. Picture Liz, Francie Rehwald, Gayle Makasian and Lyn Lyons running loose in an historic village in the mountains of Mexico together. One shudders to think!! Happy Winter to all, Liz Norris Davies

I'm 58, founded/operated an exclusive Porsche repair shop in Santa Monica for 25 years. Moved to Bakersfield in 2002 with my wife Kate, a Kern County Assistant D.A., and stepson Mike, 11. I have two adult children, Denny and Diana, from a first marriage, both are doing well. I drove competitively for many years and won an E/P SCCA championship in 1985. I became disabled in 2002 and just underwent shoulder replacement surgery - so much for golf and tennis! Life in Bakersfield is good, not nearly as hectic as anywhere near the coast, but it gets hot up here. Maybe we'll move to Minnesota...
