Class Recorder:

Greg APT email Los Angeles, CA Posted 04/20/07

What up my fellow class of '84 folk. Saw some of you at the 20 year, and for those I promised to call....ooops, has it been 2 1/2 years already??? After Samo I went to UCSB, finished in ONLY 4 1/2 years (too soon), spent a couple years in SF, moved back to LA for law school, and now I'm a public defender here in LA. I live in Cheviot Hills with my wife and 2 boys (6 1/2 & 4), and life is good. So close to all the old stomping grounds, so why don't I ever run into any of you around town anyways (only in court, under the worst of circumstances, it seems, but don't worry, I won't name names). Email me sometime.

Hmmm...well I wonder if its cool to be here, since I actually was at Olympic when I graduated via CHSPE about six months ahead of schedule in Jan. 84. I am well and living in NY these days. I am still playing music. I have actually traveled the most playing tuba in a jazz group called "Howard Johnson and Gravity" ( my father's band of 6 tubas and a rhythm section). I am also singing and writing songs which you will see/hear if you check out my site. My CD "Testify" came out in Feb 97. And speaking of "coming out", I did that way back in 1985. I'm sure some of you knew before I did. That's why sometimes I say I "came to". I was waiting for boys to stop being yucky. =) Thank god for the option...(nothing against you fellas). Anyway, I'd love to hear from folks. And I wish you all well.

Its been a long fun ride. I studied Photography as well as Travel, Early Childhood development, Real Estate and loan processor. Moved to the great NW at 21- and followed the dream of having my own photography business for the past 25 years. I also have twin boys that are almost 18- I'm just getting back in touch with my roots and we plan to have a Harvard Reunion this next year. Good times - Bad times we we're always there for eachother. School was never enough - so I held 3 jobs and kept busy- I followed that till this year, now I actually plan to chill and work for someone else. I miss the beach alot !I was out in the Country for 10 years now I'm enjoying the city again and a Lake view. My sons are great and had their own landscaping business for the past 3 years- now Ryan is roofing and Ricky does horse guided tours. The man in my life-Ivan is awesome and works for the Army- he is all that I can ask for and more..each day I feel even more blessed. Don't get me wrong I've had many hardships and I've been humbled a few times over. I'm just very grateful for the family and friends I have in my life. I hope all is well and life has blessed you- send me a line- when you get a chance.

Let's see... 18 years in fewer than that many lines... Went straight into UCLA for 4 years, then UCB for grad school (Theoretical Computer Science), started working in 1990 as a computer programmer and have been doing it ever since. I've worked at TCSI (when it was in Berkeley), the UCLA Computer Science Department, a startup (now shutdown) in San Francisco, then 10 years at Forte Software / Sun Microsystems, and finally started working at Google in 2008. Got married in 1996, had a son in 1997, and life just keeps going on. Sadly, missed the 2004 reunion, but hope to catch the next one -- is that 25 years or 30?

I really miss being in history class staring out the window at the Pacific (second floor, main building), thinking, "What the hell am I doing here?" I've made a life from journalism and PR. I covered the NATO bombing campaign of Yugoslavia back in 1999 (so many wars ago!), the fall of Milosevic, and still do stories from the region, mostly for British papers, but also some American. Teacher I miss the most - Peter Sawaya. Married with two young boys - ages 2.6 and 8 weeks (as of July, 2005). Final thought, "If only I knew then what I know now."

The 4 of us went to SAMO and then to UCLA. It took 1 month for Leukemia to take our amazing 30 year old brother from us last October and our lives have not been the same... Trying to cope with this Tragic Loss & Concentrating on raising money for his fund: "The Abdi Towfigh Fund to Fight Leukemia" so we can help other families. (Please visit the web link.) Make sure you & your loved ones get an annual check-up & blood test, the symptoms are like the Flu. Leukemia is not inherited. He was so healthy, never suspected it. I got married to my best friend: Mohammad Shirloo on October 24, 1998. Have a successful business with a great partner: Gary Bolles, as independent Manufacturers' Representatives of Medical Supplies/Equipment in SOCAL. Our parents have moved back in the Georgina house in S.M. where we have most of! our childhood memories with Abdi. We all had an amazing experience at SAMOHI & will never forget the amazing teachers we had. This horrible experience proved to us that Love & True Friendship are the most important things in life. Cherish every minute you have with your loved ones, Life Really is Too Short...

Hi.... I've decided to leave my whereabouts info with SAA. Since I move around quite often... Maybe this is a good way to stay in touch with old pals. (Guys, send an email if you still remember me). I am currently working in the financial field...Fixed Income & Equity Derivatives. (Santa Monica City Finance Board should avoid me) I've taken a job in ASIA for the past 2 years 1996-1998. Although I can't say I've contributed to the Asian financial crisis, It's "totally a drag", career wise. I will flee as quickly as I can back to the cradle of New York soon, dispite the talks of potential global financial meltdown. If that really happens, my destined beach-bum-dom awaits me back in old Santa Monica. Well, no more small talks... Greetings to those who remembers...

Even tho' my dearest Ali (G)-Pal misspelled my name, hey, when you've known somebody for over 20 years, you realize you're both getting way too old and are apt to forget things! Latest news: I married a wonderful MIT geek, have a 12-year-old and a 2-year-old, and, after various attempts at finishing a dissertation in linguistics, I left to edit papers that *other* linguists write (much more fun!). Hope everyone's doing well, and hope to hear from you if you get to Boston!
